History

"Ornate" is designed to follow on in the footsteps of previous successful Jewellery Breakfasts in that the work of Dunedin jewellery artists is promoted and celebrated. The event also aims to support the development of innovative jewellery and emerging jewellery design students within the industry.

The event, following on from Jewellery Breakfasts initiated in 2005 by Jeannie Hayden and the Passion for Fashion Tours, forms part of the popular Southern Trust iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

Ornate will act as a platform for individual jewellers to launch, promote and celebrate other jewellery based events within the Fashion Week.

Continued support from South Island’s leading Mercedes and Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealership Armstrong Prestige, has allowed the event to grow and develop.

The background for jewellery based events within the iD Fashion Week stems from Jeannie Hayden’s initiation in 2005. In 2006, Armstrong Prestige became the principal sponsor of the Jewellery Breakfast with organisational support provided by the Cleveland Living Arts Centre. This sell out event was followed by a three week exhibition of jewellery works by the artists in the Otago Museum Foyer.

With the demise of the Cleveland Living Arts Centre, Dunedin jewellers have continued to host jewellery based events both within Dunedin and further afield.

Media from throughout New Zealand and overseas attending iD Dunedin Fashion Week will be invited to the 2009 cocktail party along with sponsors, supporters of jewellers work and members of the public.

Dunedin Jewellery events are a popular feature within the high profile iD Dunedin Fashion week and further contribute to Dunedin’s reputation as a destination for artistic excellence and cultural tourism. Early bookings are advisable.
